A hallmark of the M.T. Abraham Center for the Visual Arts collections is the large number of artists whose work we hold in great depth - collections which are the result of many decades of focused acquisition.
Our committed approach to this type of collecting enables an artist’s work to be displayed in multiple institutions through our loan program while also maintaining a home-base where the full scope of the artist’s work is preserved. We strive to create a collection that will provide scholars, students, and curators with a more complete outlook on an artist’s achievement while serving our borrowers with the resources to bring in-depth monographic presentations to their audiences.
We seek to promote and exhibit significant works from each period of each artist whenever possible. Many artists are represented by dozens of major works, and some are represented by truly unparalleled holdings. The M.T. Abraham Center for the Visual Arts owns more than 120 works by various lesser-known 20th century artists, ranging from the early 1900s to the 1940s. In each of these instances, the holdings include more significant groupings of these works than can be found in any other public or private collection.
